The Grammys salute Dr. Dre.

The Recording Academy announced Friday that its Producers & Engineers Wing will pay tribute to the legendary producer at a ceremony held prior to the 2020 Grammys on Jan. 22 at Village Studios in Los Angeles.

The Grammy week celebration will pay tribute to Dre’s artistic achievements and innovations as “one of the music industry’s most groundbreaking producers of all time.”

“Dr. Dre is an influential force in music,” said Deborah Dugan, President/CEO of the Recording Academy. “Dre breaks boundaries and inspires music creators across every genre. His evolution as a producer solidifies him as a leader of the pack within our industry, and we watch in amazement as he continues to shape the future of music.”

Dre has won six Grammys throughout his career, three of which he took home as a producer or engineer. As a co-founding member of N.W.A., he produced the group’s groundbreaking 1988 debut, Straight Outta Compton. He went on to produce multiplatinum records for Eminem, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and more.

He joins a prestigious list of past Producers & Engineers honorees including Quincy Jones, Nile Rodgers, Rick Rubin, Jimmy Iovine, and Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz.

The P&E Grammy event is a kickoff to the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, which airs Jan. 26, 2020 on CBS.
