Scarface Placed on Dialysis While Battling Coronavirus

Scarface’s battle with coronavirus nearly killed him.

The Geto Boys legend is revealing that he suffered kidney failure and had to be placed on dialysis as a result of complications from COVID-19.

While speaking with his fellow Geto Boy Willie D in a Zoom video, the 49-year-old rapper shared an update on his health. After testing positive for coronavirus last month, Scarface relapsed and had to be hospitalized again.

“I’m glad to be alive,” he said. “I fought the COVID double bilateral pneumonia, both lungs and kidney failure in my house. When it all went back to shit again, I went back to the hospital. I just got out of the hospital Monday [April 20].”

He also showed his dialysis port, adding, “That’s my new lifeline.”

Doctors have given him a new regimen. “I gotta change my entire diet, I gotta do dialysis four days a week, three hours a day. That’s taking all my blood out, cleaning it and putting it back in my body,” explained Scarface, who did not have any kidney issues prior to testing positive for COVID-19.

He experienced some excruciating symptoms while fighting the virus at home. “That three weeks, that month that I did in my house, was like hell, bro. I couldn’t keep food down, I couldn’t get comfortable, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t stay woke, and like I said, I couldn’t breathe, bro. It was the worst time of my life,” added Scarface, who lost “probably 30 pounds.”

Things got so bad that he thought he was going to die. “Hanging on that string of death makes you really appreciate life because I was inches away from death,” he said. “If you let the doctors tell it, they don’t know how I survived.”

While Scarface’s condition has been improving, over 54,000 people have died in the U.S. from the deadly virus including Bronx rapper Fred the Godson, who passed away earlier this week.
