Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole's Joint Project 'Might Still Happen'

  /  05.21.2020

Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole’s long-awaited joint project remains up in the air.

Fans have been anticipating a collaborative effort between the rap titans for years, and they’ll have to keep waiting, at least for now.

During a Twitter Q&A with fans on Wednesday, TDE president Terrence “Punch” Henderson asked a fan what he wanted to hear from Kendrick. The fan responded, “I wanna put him on a 3 track Ep with @JColeNC coz the world is going through a lot and that alone would make the world so happy. Please make it happen.”

But Punch had to break the unfortunate news. “That’s never going to happen,” he replied.

Another fan was hopeful that something bigger than a three-track EP was in the works between the TDE and Dreamville camps. However, he’ll have to keep dreaming as nothing is currently in the works. “0 tracks. Not happening,” said Punch.

But despite his comments, he still left fans hopeful for a Kendrick-Cole joint album. Punch returned to Twitter hours later with another update.

“Nah I don’t know. It might still happen. I want it to happen,” he wrote, revealing that he put in the call to both of them. “Y’all really want that album still??? Like for real? I think it would great for hip hop. I did my part though. I spoke to both of them. Hit them ni**as!”

A Kendrick-Cole collaborative project has been talked about for nearly a decade. In 2018, Cole opened up about the possibility.

“We just did a few songs. We did a bunch of ideas,” he told Angie Martinez. “You wouldn’t call it an album, you wouldn’t call it nothing like that. It didn’t come from nowhere, it came from us. But it’s not something that’s actively happening. I don’t want to play with people’s emotions. He got a career, I got a career. I got a family, he got a family. It would have been easier back then.”

While fans keep waiting, Kendrick reportedly has new music on the way. TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith recently announced that the Compton kingpin “will return soon.”
