Kanye West Sues Walmart Over Knockoff Yeezy Foam Runner

  /  06.24.2021

Kanye West is suing Walmart for selling a knockoff version of his foam shoe.

In the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, West’s company Yeezy claims that Walmart sold an “unauthorized exact copy” of its popular Yeezy Foam Runner, leaving customers confused about whether they were buying the real thing or an imitation.

Yeezy alleges that Walmart has been selling the look-alike in order to cash in on the popularity of Kanye and the Foam Runner, which went on sale in June 2020 for $75.

The knockoff version, which is made by a company called Daeful, is still being sold on Walmart.com for under $25. Yeezy claims Walmart could be costing it hundreds of millions of dollars in sales by selling the ripoff shoe.

Kanye’s team has reportedly sent a legal notice to Walmart demanding that they pull the shoe from its site, but the retailer has failed to do so. Yeezy is suing for major damages.

This is the latest legal dispute involving Yeezy and Walmart. In April, the retail giant challenged a trademark filing for the Yeezy LLC logo, saying it looks too similar to Walmart’s 13-year-old sun logo. Walmart is trying to have it blocked on the grounds that it will create a “false suggestion of a connection” between the two brands.
