88-Keys, Izza Kizza, Kidz, & Asher Go Green

88-Keys and Asher Roth

Rappers love the green and it’s not the Benjamin Franklin kind. On a mild evening at NYU’s Kimmel Center in NYC, Izza Kizza, 88-Keys, Kidz in the Hall, and a surprise appearance from Asher Roth kept the place bumping for the university’s Earth Day 2009.

Izza Kizza took the stage first, showcasing base-heavy tracks and production from Timbaland on records like “They’re Everywhere.” As he jumped into the crowd to party, Izza kept the concert rolling and set the bar for acts to follow.

Known for his “Stay Up (Viagra)” track featuring Kanye West, 88-Keys took concertgoers on a ride through his debut album, The Death of Adam. Dressed in an all-black suit, the Bronx native performed an exclusive track entitled “M.I.L.F.,” finished only a day before the concert.

88-Keys’ clever lyrics and quick beats were a refreshing tone before headliners Kidz in the Hall hit the mic. In what was a welcome surprise, fellow rising star Asher Roth graced concert patrons with a quick freestyle, before introducing KITH’s Double-O and Naledge. Their single, “Love Hangover” featuring Estelle, caused massive head-nodding and body-swaying. After throwing some water onto the literally hot concertgoers, the event was a wrap.

It was all to save the green. While this recession has people holding onto their Benjamins, it’s good to know the ones they do spend are being thrown back into a good cause.
