DJ Skee's Top 5 Summer Jams
The heat is approaching and that means two things: summer is around the corner and new music is bubbling in the streets. Buzz builder and record-spinning extraordinaire DJ Skee, 25, can identify a summer jam on a first listen. This knack for being ahead of the game has helped him form his own marketing company, Hype, and secure an abundance of radio gigs. Besides his current Sirius XM radio show, “Live From L.A.,” Skee’s latest business venture with the radio giant is “Skeetox,” a weekly Saturday night show debuting new music. Never straying far from his lane, Skee preps listeners with a summer playlist sure to set eardrums ablaze.
“Birthday Sex,” Jeremih
I think that’s just the anthem from across urban to pop. [It’s] summer feel good and just some fun stuff for the guys and girls both to love. It’s just that record, right now, that’s bubbling.
“Superman,” R. Kelly featuring OJ Da Juiceman
That’s the hood, R. Kelly, street, club banger, everything. Gucci [Mane] wrote some of that song, so you still hear some of his ad-libs and OJ’s on it. That’s just like the Dirty South, but you got R. Kelly on it. [It’s] the feel-good club record that everyone is singing along to everywhere.
“Off That,” Jay-Z featuring Drake
It’s Jay’s official radio single. You already know how hot Jay is because he has his street single out right now and to throw Drake on it, it gets no bigger.
“Best I Ever Had,” Drake
The good thing that I like about that record is that Drake is still unsigned. This isn’t like with radio promotion. It just naturally picked up from his mixtape. His style is so unique, the way he combines the rap and the R&B stuff. He has everyone’s attention and he has a great record.
“Boyz in the Skinny Jeans,” Baby Dollz
I just heard it like a week ago and I think it’s going to be huge. I think that’s going to be a big one because it conforms to the ladies.
