Melanie Fiona gets personal on a new ballad off her sophomore album The MF Life, which she debuted at a gig at London’s The Luminaire. The soft-edged tune soon bursts into a fiery confection with lyrics of realization that her man has left and isn’t coming back.

After performing the vulnerable track, the Toronto native spoke to the audience about the follow-up to her 2009 debut The Bridge. “Thank you guys so much. It felt so good to perform that song. I can’t wait for you guys to hear the new music,” she told the crowd. “The new album is called The MF Life, coming out early 2011. And I hope you guys enjoy it even more than you enjoyed The Bridge. I really, really do.”

The album will go beyond the music. “The MF Life is not just about songs,” explained the Grammy nominee. “It’s a lifestyle, y’all. I’ve been all over the world as a new artist, and I’ve been so blessed to do so many amazing things.”
