Alicia Keys Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary at Hometown Show

Alicia Keys

In 2001, a 20-year-old singer with braids named Alicia Keys burst onto the scene with her debut songs in A minor. A decade later, the same woman, who has since won 14 Grammys and sold millions of records worldwide, took the stage at New York’s Beacon Theatre to perform music from the album that started it all as part of “Piano & I: A One Night Only Event With Alicia Keys.”

Surrounded by candles while seated at the piano, a Givenchy-clad Alicia played the groundbreaking album from top to bottom, mixing in other career-spanning hits and covers of DeBarge’s “Stay With Me,” Tupac’s “I Ain’t Mad at Cha,” and Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love.”

“Do ya’ll want me to play ‘Superwoman’ or ‘Like You’ll Never See Me Again’?” she asked the crowd before hitting the opening keys of the latter.

She wrote a love letter to her hometown with “Empire State of Mind” and closed the 30-song set with her chart-topper “No One.” “Just coming from 1 of the most unforgettable nights of my LIFE!!!! What a celebration!” tweeted a grateful Alicia following the career milestone.
