New Music: John Legend - 'Who Did That to You?'

John Legend

Quentin Tarantino is pulling out all the stops for his new film Django Unchained. In addition to casting Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio in the Civil War-era western, the famed director calls on some of music’s leading men for the soundtrack.

Following Rick Ross’ Foxx-produced cut “100 Black Coffins,” John Legend lends his Grammy-winning voice to “Who Did That to You?” Co-written and produced by Paul Epworth (Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”), the chilling track contains a darker and grittier sound from the soul man.

“I’m excited to be a part of this film and the soundtrack,” said Legend. “When I first learned that Quentin was making Django Unchained—a film set in the South two years before the Civil War—I felt a strong connection to the story. I knew that I wanted to compose a song for this film; a song that would not only give voice to Django, a man willing to stand up and fight for his lover’s honor, but also feel like a natural fit in a Tarantino film.”

The G.O.O.D. Music crooner’s new album Love in the Future is currently being mixed and is due next spring with a tour to follow.
