2 Chainz

2 Chainz capped off his release week with a visit to Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” on Friday. The Atlanta rapper, who celebrated his 36th birthday this week, sat down with Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy to discuss his new album B.O.A.T.S. II #METIME, tour bus standoff, his friend Gucci Mane’s Twitter rant, and staying true to the trap.

His album is expected to sell 55-60,000 copies in its first week, while his 2012 debut Based on a T.R.U. Story charted at No. 1 with 147,000. So how does he feel about the sales predictions?

Hear 2 Chainz tell the truth.

On his run-in with police in Oklahoma: “As of right now, we all got charged with obstruction charges, which are misdemeanors. … We informed them that there were weapons on the bus because, of course, I had my own security. It wasn’t any drugs found on the bus.”

On his album sales: “Of course I care. I’m still gon’ grind it out. If it does 50k, I’ll probably be mad as hell and do something like buy another car, make myself feel better. But at the same time, I know it’s a race and if anybody know me, it’s hard to really get me down, get me discouraged. I’m very optimistic.”

On the lack of promotion for B.O.A.T.S. II: “You don’t want to get into becoming angry rapper mode, pointing fingers at different people. I’m still confident in word of mouth as far as marketing and advertising. … I’m kinda like on some laidback, humble stuff right now ’cause I really think I outdid myself on this album.”

On Gucci Mane’s Twitter rant: “I don’t expect nothing less from him. That’s my dawg. … This probably made him feel better, airing it out, embarrassing a few people. It didn’t bother me at all, straight up.”

On staying connected to his roots: “You start from the trap and you become a kingpin. You still gotta stay true to your origin as far as being a street artist. I still got a knack for the slang, even though I’m cold turkey on the criminal activity. I still got my ear to the streets. For those that want me to say stagnant, I’m not gonna do that. It’s about growing.”
