Troy Ave Addresses First-Week Album Sales

  /  06.11.2015

Troy Ave’s official debut Major Without a Deal entered the charts this week with less-than-stellar sales.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album shifted 4,373 units in its first week. Of that total, only 30 were physical copies. However, the project was released exclusively through digital retailers on Friday, June 5, and only had three days of sales supporting its first week whereas most albums earn six days of sales.

The physical version of Major Without a Deal, which features appearances from Rick Ross, Jeezy, and A$AP Ferg, was not released until Tuesday, June 9, two days after the tracking period ended. The 30 CDs represent mom-and-pop retailers who sold the album ahead of its official release.

The album was rushed to digital retailers in advance of Troy’s Hot 97 Summer Jam performance. “Troy Ave had a big performance at NYC’s Hot 97 Summer Jam on Sunday, June 7th and wanted his fans to be able to get the album prior to that show,” a rep for EMPIRE Recordings tells Billboard. “Thus, we released the digital version on June 5th and then on June 9th, the physical copies were released.”

Despite the erroneous reports, it didn’t stop Twitter from clowning the Brooklyn rapper and making him a trending topic.

Troy eventually took to Twitter to address the figures. He laughed off his critics and claims that he made $120,000 in the last week.
