Brooklyn Rapper Sean Price Dies at 43

The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of Sean “Ruck” Price. The beloved Brooklyn rapper died Saturday morning at the age of 43.

Price was a member of the hip-hop groups Heltah Skeltah, Boot Camp Clik, and Random Axe, as well as a successful solo artist.

DJ Premier first revealed Price’s death on Instagram, writing, “R.I.P. Ruck… Love and Respect to The Duck Down Family!!! #SeanPrice.” His wife also confirmed his passing on Facebook.

The cause of death is currently unknown, but he reportedly died in his sleep at his Brooklyn apartment. He is survived by his wife and three children.

“It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015,” Price’s rep said in a statement. “Sean’s family and friends are asking for time to grieve and process the news. Further details will be issued when more information is available.”

Sean’s peers including Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder took to Twitter to mourn his loss.

Price was preparing to release his mixtape, Songs in the Key of Price, on Aug. 21. To promote the project, he recently reenacted Tyrese’s famous 1994 Coca-Cola commercial on a New York bus.
