50 Cent Reflects on 18th Anniversary of 'In Da Club'

  /  01.08.2021

It’s been 18 years since 50 Cent dropped “In Da Club.”

On the anniversary of his breakout hit, the hip-hop mogul took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone and reflect on his Get Rich or Die Tryin’ single, which is still receiving radio airplay to this day.

“Hey you ain’t gonna believe this one, but 18 years ago today i dropped a song i recorded in LA and it’s still spinning 1,000 times a week at radio,” 50 told his followers.

A humbled Fif went on to thank his mentor Eminem for putting him on. “I tell @eminem i love him for what he did for me, he put me on,” he added.

Released on Jan. 7, 2003, “In Da Club” became 50’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song at the 2004 Grammys. The Dr. Dre-produced song served as the lead single off Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

In November, the video for “In Da Club” reached 1 billion views on YouTube, becoming the second hip-hop music video from the pre-YouTube era to achieve this milestone following Eminem’s “Without Me.” In 2020, the video was averaging over 400,000 views per day.

Nearly two decades later, 50 is still on the grind. He recently teamed up with NLE Choppa and Rileyy Lanez on “Part of the Game,” the theme song for his upcoming Starz series, “Power Book III: Raising Kanan.”
