2009 American Music Awards: Show

Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston

The 2009 American Music Awards crammed over 15 top-notch performances into three hours, making for some must-see TV. The late Michael Jackson won four awards, but the night’s biggest winner was Taylor Swift, who acknowledged the King of Pop in her acceptance speech: “Music has never been openly about competition and to even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who will be missed and loved forever, is an unimaginable honor,” said the 19-year-old country music star.

Plus, Janet Jackson opened the show with a medley of her greatest hits, Whitney Houston was presented with the International Artist Award, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys channeled Ol’ Blue Eyes, Timbaland and Nelly Furtado reunited onstage, Eminem and 50 Cent “Crack[ed] a Bottle,” and Jennifer Lopez tumbled, but did not crumble in her “Louboutins.”

OMG! I heart Whitney so much. She had me shedding a tear for her. So proud at how far she’s come. She looked gorgeous, classy and so elegant. Reminded me of how she was in the 80′s and 90′s. She’s getting so much stronger and 1000% better than GMA.

Great to see her family and daughter supporting her. Love Alicia. Rihanna and J-Lo, I’m a have to call a #fail on you guys *Kanye shrug*.

Adam Lambert- what was that, smh at the f*ckery!

I’m sorry but the show was just alright. It was more Quantity over Quality. There were no stellar performances that I’m gonna remember a year from now. It was entertaining though I was annoyed at Michael Jackson winning all those awards though. They know damn well if he was alive and had dropped that album his ass wouldn’t have won shit. Oh well though decent show.

I honestly thought it was the best award show of the year, by far. You can’t beat the performances we got last night.
