« New Music: The Weeknd – ‘Initiation’Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, & Ne-Yo Salute Michael Jackson at Tribute Concert »Drake Pushes ‘Take Care’ to November![]() Drake won’t be celebrating his album release on his birthday after all. The hip-hop superstar has delayed the release of his sophomore album Take Care from October 24 to November 15. In a message posted on his OVO blog, Drizzy explained the reason for the pushback, saying that he is having difficulty clearing three samples in time. “My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it,” he wrote. The follow-up to Thank Me Later will arrive in the form he intended instead of being rushed to make the date. He has subsequently moved his “Club Paradise” tour to next year. Dates will be announced in the coming week. Read his full explanation below.

I’m angry that it got pushed back but as long as a good album comes out of it then it’s worth it!

Makes sense, I had a feeling it would be pushed back but not because of this. Only 3 weeks later, it will probably leak around the original release date anyway

@On All Levels,
I guess I understand, & the only good thing is the possibility of a FLA school being added to the tour dates….

This is another reason why I love Drake. I’m not mad that the release date is being pushed back. I’m even more excited now to hear what he has to offer on this album. Plus the fact that it’s being released one day before my birthday is icing on the cake.

@uhuh, Naw thats not the reason Headlines is #1 on the rap charts, #2 U.S. R&B Hip Hop, and #13 on Billboard Hot 100 thats pretty damn good. Its just that he needs to clear the samples on some of his songs which takes time.

The good Lord knows I HATE album push backs with a PASSION, yet they keep coming up ON EVERY ALBUM I LOOK FORWARD TO and I can’t stand it. Don’t have a choice but to wait. Wish he’d at least release another single. I’m still buying but I was ready for that sucker.

@TeamDrickiNYC,
What competition?
Most of the other people he came up w/ just dropping their first album & the others been in the game for a minute. The only comp he got is Nicki & they on the same team…. she got those pop sales so she may win by a land slide.

@Castrolani, that is kind of true. His competition is Nicki Minaj, Jay Z, and Kanye West. Jay/Ye already came out and Nickis on the same team so NO competition. It’ll sale 650k 1st week

@YES., NOPE have you seen his record contract? he has 100 per cent control. Why do ya think he signed to young money…he did it to get the contract that he wanted. He seems to be his own boss, he only has to give 25per cent profit to the company the rest is his lol he on top of that shit. IMO he just pushed back cause he wanna listen to J cole’s album and make sure his is better.
[Reply]
YES. Reply:
October 10th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
@THETRUTH, No I haven’t seen the contract- don’t need to. However, I am aware that YME is an imprint of Cash Money which is distributed by UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP.
With that said, NO recording artist signed under a major music label has 100% control. Period. Just doesn’t happen. Not for Drizzy. Not for nobody.
Q:How insecure to push your album back
because of J Cole?
A: Very.
While Drake is an okay artist, he doesn’t have the artist development knowledge and branding sensibility to be his own boss. If that was the case he’d be INDEPENDENT. But of course he’s NOT.

Well, I already have Big Sean, J. Cole, and the Jay-Z/Kanye West albums to tide me over until then. Been really itching to hear all of Drakes new material. Some of what we’ve heard has been a hit (Dreams Money Can Buy, Club Paradise, Free Spirit) and a miss (Headlines, Marvin’s Room) with me. Maybe once the whole album comes out, I’ll appreciate the songs more. My only complaint is that the production is starting to sound the same, but then again, maybe that’s why I need to listen to the entire album. Cannot wait for “Take Care.” :)

This is all about Grammys. Kanye West is a lock for this year, and he’s likely not going to release an album next year to compete with Drake, so Drake’s aiming for next year’s awards.
Album releases after September/October (not sure which one) are not considered for the year they are released in.
