Beyoncé is amazing for this. I’m with alci. Etta was extremely disrespectul with Beyoncé, first she said she loved her and her performance/voice and then, when Beyoncé performed for Obama, she got pressed. Anyway, RIP.

Disrespectful? I understood her frustration. Maybe it should have not been geared towards Bey (entirely) but what the President did by having Bey perform HER song was messed up. THAT was disrespectful. It wasn’t Beyonce who gave life to that song, it wasn’t her who lived through the segregation between blacks and whites. Etta deserved that honor so that was a kick in the face. I think she felt Bey was getting a little too comfortable singing her song everywhere. Love Bey’s music but true class my ass. That women was shaded in the worst way.

@NuBlossom, I could agree if the song was written for Etta James, but it was not. Etta James was one of several people that covered the song. In fact, Glenn Miller was one of the first artists to make it popular.

@NuBlossom, It shouldn’t have been directed at Bey at all . What does a singer do ? Sing . The president asked Bey to sing , & she did . Grow up .

@NuBlossom, Google “At Last” and see who comes up. She made that song what it is. That was her signature song. Just as not many are going to remember that “I Will Always Love You” was originally Dolly Parton’s song or the “Single Ladies” dance was inspired. Many of Bey fans would have a fit if the shoe was on the other foot. Some newcomer(compared to Etta) getting praise and a very honor for something she spent her career making name brand. Wigs off on Twitter.

Sounds like someone wrote that for her. Typical press release language. We all know Beyonce didn’t like her & she did a horrible job at playing her. Etta deserved so much better. Perhaps a true actress. :(

@Real Issh,
Too bad your response won’t help her acting skills. It’s funny how you Bey stans can’t admit when your “queen” is not as good as you would like her to be. In all honesty, she did not play Etta well. Not shade. Just the truth.

@Audrey Hepburn, On the contrary – I think Bey did a flawless job , signing and acting . When a star is a star , u can’t take nothing from them . But opinions are like all the cliches so u know the rest of this sentence .
Now – I wouldn’t watch a movie that has the Queen that I hate in it . Why were u watching again ? #majah

@Real Issh, I watched the movie because of the many portrayals of legends like Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, the founders of Chess Records and the incomparable Etta James. Needless to say, the entire movie fell flat. Beyonce was just the cherry on top of that disaster.
and FYI, I never said I HATE anyone. It’s just a matter of my personal artistic choosing.

Your “artistic choosing” shouldn’t have u dissing the ones u don’t like . Majority .

Beyonce once again tries to make this about herself. She didn’t even have enough decency to meet up with Etta when she portrayed her in Cadallic Records. How can you not meet up with the person you are portraying and the person was still alive? Etta meant what she said dementia or not. Beyonce didn’t respect Etta enough to talk to her about portraying her, so Etta showed the hoe no respect. Beyonce only played Etta for the last 10 minutes of the movie, because she sounded and acted nothing like her the entire movie. Beyonce is always after a quick buck. Fake hoe.
