Maroon 5 dials up Wiz Khalifa for the Benny Blanco-produced “Payphone,” the first single off the group’s upcoming album Overexposed, due June 26. Frontman Adam Levine reminisces over time wasted on a failed relationship (“All those fairy tales are full of it”), while the Taylor Gang rapper stunts on his stinging verse.
“Now it’s me who they want, so you can go take that little piece of shit with you,” barks Wiz, who will perform with the band tonight on NBC’s “The Voice.”
Don’t like it. Since the ”failure” of Hands All Over, they apparently have decided to move from alternative rock to pop. Doesn’t sound good at all. Sucks that artists value money and success over good music.
@Meee, LOL clearly you haven’t listened to Maroon 5′s albums over the last five years. They have never been an alternative rock bad #nicetry (yes I put a #hashtag here lol)
@Meee, when was maroon 5 ever alternative rock? this love was clearly pop and all singles since then have always been pop so i dont know where you got that from
wiz khalifa ruined this song. they should have gotten another singer to feature or if they wanted a rapper could have gone with maybe ludacris or no rapper at all.
@kasaija, im a hater bcos i don’t like a verse? what are u? 12? read the lyrics while u listen to his verse and if u like it good for u. i will stick with my opinion
I’m a fan of Wiz, but I didn’t like the flow he used on his verse, the rhyme pattern was awkward and inconsistent, it sounded more like he was talking fast instead of rapping. I think someone like Drake, Mac Miller, or B.o.B. would’ve did a better job with this, I’m surprised Wiz didn’t. Anyway, other than that, it sounds like a hit to me. Maroon 5 are one of the few pop artist whose music I respect nowadays.
Wiz did mess up the song. They literally had to stop the song & change the tempo for him. B.o.B. would’ve been perfect for this song! Love the song besides that thou
@Dave, Well that’s your opinion. I feel Wiz’s voice is very suitable with the sphere of the song. And how he raps, I think it’s not a problem. In fact, it’s really cool flow you know lol. Well that’s my opinion. :)
Wake up ppl……WIZard SUCKS……there is nothing good about this chump, he should jus sit dwn for life…Maroon 5 adding that tatooed giraffe is career suicide…..
Maroon 5 is unique in there own way and have been succesful in watever category there in just a shame that they had introduce wiz khalia to this awesome song even though he is succesful ( i dont know how ) but yea whoever said alternative rock smoke another fattie idiot

@Meee, Maroon 5 were always pop/contemporary! Pop doesn’t just mean Rihanna/Britney type music.

Oh my God I love it!!! Maroon 5 is awesome! And their new CD is so good. I am so watching The Voice tonight! I love this freakin song! :)
Side note: I personally think the song is perfect without the feature. Wiz verse was really good though.
