Rap-Up.com || Rihanna, Lil Wayne Among Top Billboard Music Awards Finalists

Adele, LMFAO, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Lil Wayne lead the finalists for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, it was announced today.

Adele keeps rolling in the accolades. The British powerhouse is a finalist in 18 categories including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Artist, while electro-pop duo LMFAO follows in 17 award categories.

Last year’s leader Rihanna scores recognition in 13 categories this year, while Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga tie with 10 categories.

Adele, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, and Katy Perry will compete for Top Artist, while the Top New Artist category welcomes Wiz Khalifa, Bad Meets Evil, Big Sean, Foster the People, and Scotty McCreery.

The show will air live from the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on May 20 with performances from Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO, and The Wanted. More performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

@HEY RAP-UP, @HEY RAP-UP, Um…Drake, really? And what about Foster the People, Michael Buble, Bruno Mars, Bad Meets Evil? – you know, people who actually write/produce/play their own music! I know I’m going to get a lot of stick from Bey fans, but her album didn’t really impress me this year (‘Run the World’ was definitely for the sales!). But I still love her though cos she’s talented. And I know Drake’s a rapper, but he uses shitloads of autotune when he’s singing. Anyway saying that, I don’t care if an artist is popular or not- all that matters is whether they have genuine talent.

What’s happened to award shows when real music was celebrated? I mean where’s Jay and Kanye on the list, Bey should have been nominated in top female. J.Cole should have been for best new artist. And the songs on the list are horrible. Katy Perry? Lil Wayne? Rihanna? There are only a few worthy nominations here.

@TheDreamer, Beyonce won the BILLBOARD MILLENNIUM AWARD last year- if that wasn’t a good enough award, I don’t know what is! And like most music awards, they have cut-off dates (it isn’t just from 1st January to 31st December). But I agree that J. Cole should have been nominated (he was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys though). It’s all based on statistics, and numbers don’t lie.
