Rap-Up.com || Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj Perform ‘Girl on Fire’ at MTV VMAs

Alicia Keys set the stage ablaze during her performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday. Following an introduction from the “Fierce Five” gymnasts, the R&B songbird performed her new single “Girl on Fire” live for the first time at L.A.’s Staples Center.

Not-so-surprise guest Nicki Minaj joined her along with Gabby Douglas, who showed off some of the moves that scored her a gold medal at the London Olympics. Alicia’s husband Swizz Beatz and son Egypt proudly watched from the audience.

Prior to hitting the stage, Nicki picked up the award for Best Female Video for “Starships.” “Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!” said the Young Money diva as she accepted the honor.

Say what you want about Nicki, she is definitely WINNING! But I wish she would tone down her look a little, because she isn’t ulgy at all (but those WIGGZ need to have a seat)!

Loved the performance that Alicia gave, & with the combination of Nicki & Gabby it added spark. Being a fan of both Nicki and Alicia I was pleased. Now all we need Nicki too do is to keep giving us those kind of bars when she spits!

Loved this entire performance. Alicia really had an influence on Nikki with this song, she has brought her back to her roots. I love it. Alicia was gorgeous her body is on fire.

I love the Alicia Keys Haters, a bunch of kids thats accustomed to trash music. Alicia is on a whole other level, she doesn’t need to p*ssy pop or shake her a** to sell her music, she sells it on quality and it is timeless unlike some of the mess that you all are praising now, you can put on an Alicia Keys track anytime and anyplace and it is relevant and will be relevant for decades to come, some of these people that you all worship will be forgotten in 3 or 4 years. Sad!!

@Lisa, I agree, Alicia is at the top of her game at a time when many artists today could care less what they put out there for our young people to hear, just as long as they can make a hit. It’s very inspiring to see a performer do what they love to do so much and not be taken in or influenced by others negative ways of achieving that hit. I hope Alicia always does Alicia, like she always has. I appreciate her not being that cookie cutter performer who follows the trend of what other artists do.

@Yo, Alicia did not sound horrible, she sounded amazing. Think you could do better? Other artists that I won’t mention sounded much much worse. Also I’d like to see you move accross that stage any better. Alicia was beautiful and moved just fine. I think everyone with heels was being a little careful not to fall. BTW, Alicia is a beautiful WOMAN and I’m so sick of people saying how masculine a woman looks just because she’s not long and lanky. Alicia is fit and she looks great. Sounds like you enjoy nitpicking, finding all the wrongs in others but I wonder what you’re wrongs are.

This performance was horrible. It definitely was not it. Alicia Keys sounded terrible and she moved very awkwardly, especially when she was trying to caress her body. The way she stomped across that stage was so….masculine. She looks so masculine in the face now. I started calling her Alek Keys. The only good thing about this performance was the Nicki verse and Gabby. She could’ve just let the instrumental play and let Gabby flip and twirl all around stage because those losing vocals

Gabby was Alicia’s surprise guest, not Nicki’s. Just like Lauryn Hill had to clarify that she was a surprise guest for Nas, not Nicki. Why Nicki be trying to steal everybody “surprise guests” for herself?

If Bey would have made this song ppl would be all over it! No shade to Bey, but this is a vey nice song with a beautiful meaning. Run the World was horrible (I liked it) but when comparing meaning and the song as a whole this is way better to me.

@#TeamMinaj, How so? The lyrics of “Run the World” in my opinion took more thought to write in my opinion than “girl on fire” which is quite basic. I know Beyonce DID NOT write that song but that’s not really the point.

I still think the song is weak. It seriously sounds like a song that would have been on “The Element of Freedom” or even a bonus track on “As I Am.” I was expecting something so much more. It’s nice how she brought Gabby out for the performance though. I understand the positive message of the song and I give props to Alicia for keeping it classy. I’ll always love her!
