« New Music: Chris Brown – ‘Nobody’s Perfect’Chris Brown on Rihanna: ‘We’re Working on Our Friendship’ »New Music: Alicia Keys – ‘Brand New Me’![]() Alicia Keys discovers herself on the introspective ballad “Brand New Me,” co-written by Scottish singer Emeli Sandé. The Grammy-winning songstress debuted the piano-driven song live at the iTunes Music Festival in London, and it will appear on her upcoming album Girl on Fire, due November 27. “It’s been awhile, I’m not who I was before/ You look surprised, your words don’t burn me anymore/ Been meaning to tell you, but I guess it’s clear to see/ Don’t be mad, it’s just a brand new kind of me/ Can’t be bad, I found a brand new kind of free,” sings Alicia, who explained the song’s premise. “‘Brand New Me’ is about the journey it takes to get to a place where you are proud to be a new you,” she told The BoomBox. “There is nothing wrong with growing. There may be people in your life that knew you for a long time and they think of you only as the person you used to be and not the person you now are. And this song is a conversation introducing them to the new you, where nothing can hold you back and no one can hold you down.” In addition to Sandé, Girl on Fire features contributions from Maxwell, Nicki Minaj, Babyface, Pop & Oak, Salaam Remi, John Legend, and more.

@MinajRules2013too, Please don’t come here repping tacky-assed Nicki Minaj to come diss Alicia Keys… You’re on her personal shit, while everyone else is checking for her music. When you know what talent is, you can come back. Until then, GO SIT DOWN, TROLL.

Love this song, but still don’t believe she’s changed that much. From what I’ve heard from the new album this is the best and I don’t see how anything could be much better.

@Sonya, I agree, that I don’t think she’s changed that much as an artist. I’m sure as a person and individual she’s changed a lot though, and that’s probably more what it’s about.
I would assume. I don’t know if the new album will be her ‘best’, don’t really care. I’ll probably love it though, it’ll be hard to top Songs in A Minor for me.

@Asa, I think Alicia is growing as an artist and I do think her music is changing as she grows. What I don’t believe is that she herself has changed that much. She’s more just growing and facing a lot of different changes but deep down I feel she’s the same person she’s always been. Maybe a little more in control but the same. ??? Can’t wait for the album.

@roy, Alicia has a writing credit on every single song on every album whether it’s solo or co-written. The only tracks without her name on the writing credits are her covers – how come you don’t call my name, if I was your woman, wild horses, every little bit hurts.
You TRIED though.

I love the fact that she’s taking a different approach with her single choices. her last three album promos went like this: First single- radio-friendly, cute and lovey. 2nd single- heartwrenching, expressing the pains of love. 3rd single, upbeat, funner song that gets no airplay. Way to change it up!
