New Music: Iggy Azalea f/ Charli XCX – ‘Fancy’

Fancy

Iggy Azalea steps up her game on her new single “Fancy” featuring British singer Charli XCX. The blonde bombshell stunts over the West Coast-inspired beat (produced by Invisible Men), while Charli brings some punk rock flavor to the hook. A demo of the song leaked last year under the title “Leave It.”

“I feel like ‘Work’ and this are my two favorites,” Iggy told BBC Radio 1Xtra’s MistaJam. “It’s definitely a strong reflection of my style and what people saw me come out the gate with. I feel very confident about it.”

She plans to shoot a video with Charli in L.A. this month.

The song will be available to purchase on April 6, while Iggy’s debut album The New Classic has a release date of April 14.

I don’t care if its good or bad. I actually want her to succeed. She deserves it.

@Andy, So, you don’t care if it’s bad or good but want her to succeed? Whether she deserves anything depends on it’s quality, Stanley.

@Andy, Andy no! You’re smarter than that. I’m not feeling this at all. Here’s something to consider: Iggy calls her new album “the new classic” , but that’s an inherent contradiction. Classic is exactly that because it has withstood the test of time. To suddenly try to redefine it is futile and presumptuous. I think that this is exactly what her album will sound like and I’m not here for it at all.

@Andy, Tbh, I usually like the music she puts out. I would be surprised it turns out to be bad. If it appeals to my ears then she’ll definitely command my money when the album drops.

I think a lot of people hate her because they 1) don’t want another girl in the game, 2) are (not-so) closeted racists, 3) think she’s a female Vanilla Ice, 4) worried yet another non-black may just win at a genre blacks generated. (Fun fact: Techno was started by blacks as well.)

That said, for my part, I’m very critical when it comes to music, but there’s something about her that has gained and maintained my attention – I keep her mixtapes on repeat, which go much harder than this lighter mainstream stuff they’ve been putting out to get the pop crowd too. But until she makes a mistake I cannot get past, I’ll be here for her music. And her FASHION!!!

@FormerlyFromTokyo, Note: I said “hate.” Not liking someone just because they don’t appeal to you comes from a more legitimate place.

She seems to stay working, so hopefully that work pays off.

It’s a bit boring, like the other official singles. The mix tapes were much better … more experimentation.

I like the way she softens her tone in the third verse. Can I get some more of that?
