Beyoncé Pays Homage to Aaliyah

Beyoncé

Bow down. Beyoncé paid tribute to another queen, Aaliyah, on Instagram. Queen Bey rocked shades and a Revolution Riche sweater with Babygirl’s face on it as she posed against a white wall. The ’90s throwback photo of the late singer was taken from the Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number era.

Only 50 of the red, white, and blue “American Babygirl” sweaters were made. They went on sale earlier this year on Aaliyah’s birthday. Some sizes are currently on back order, but you can still grab one for $179 before they sell out.

To celebrate her “Pretty Hurts” single, Bey has released a video for her #WhatIsPretty campaign starring fans explaining what pretty means to them.

Even “B” knows who the real “A” is…and if “A” was still alive, “B” would still be in her DIL mode.

@Shutterbug, false, my dear. Aaliyah didn’t need to die for Beyonce to progress. They are two different artists.

Beyonce likes and pays homage to Aaliyah, but it’s funny when people are still saying that Beyonce would be nothing if Aaliyah was still alive. Aaliyah had no #1 albums, no grammys and only a #1 song before her death. When she was alive, all Destiny’s Child’s albums outsold hers. Even Brandy outsold Aaliyah’s albums and look at her sales now…How would she be bigger than Beyonce?

@Ah, So true, they were both great artists in their own right, dunno why people always wanna play black women off against each other. Aaliyah died so no one can really call what may or may not have happened.

@Ah, 3 albums, 7 year career, 32 million albums old… The youngest black female artist to perform at the oscars.

Aaliyah had a box office hit & a #1 song with “Try Again” that was the. first song in history to ever go #1 based solely on airplay. As well has scoring #1s internationally.

She had movies booked up til 2007, including box office hits that were “The Matrix” & “Honey”.

And still to this day her music is sampled in artists songs, her style has influenced & even vocals used. A lot of artists still praise her for what she did, just like Beyoncé is doing right now.

Just remember Beyoncé was not the huge star she is today as she was back when Aaliyah was around. So respect that.

@Malika, Her last two albums were #1 and her last album went Gold. Bey would be irrelevant if AALIYAH WAS HERE.

@Ah, no Aaliyah outsold Brandy. Please fact check before you talk. Beyoncé is living longer of course she’s outselling. Aaliyah can’t reco

@Prince, brandy, Aaliyah, & Monica were runnin shit in the 90s! Aaliyah sold the most, brandy was more popular, & Monica had the voice & better chart success!

Aaliyah was in her own lane when she was alive and Beyoncé was in her own lane, so no sense in comparing the two or putting one above the other. Beyoncé is just being the class act that she is and celebrating Aaliyah’s amazing legacy!

As for people tryin to compare queen bey & Aaliyah !! Stop it! I love Aaliyah & she was soooo beautiful & talented in her own way but beyonce always could sing better than aaliyah! We not gon even discuss beyonces talent now esp not her vocal skills cause that alone would a bitch forget about Aaliyah. No shade just facts!

If Aaliyah was still here, they would have co-existed, somewhat like how Bey & Rih Does. There would’ve also been NO need for artist like Ciara, Cassie, Jhene, and Sevyn.

HOWEVER, they fill a certain void that the game was missing after her death. #FACTS
