New Music: Ameriie – ‘What I Want’ [Snippet]

Ameriie

It’s been nearly five years since Ameriie released her last album In Love & War. But the D.C. singer is ready to return to the spotlight. She took to Instagram on Thursday to preview a new song called “What I Want.”

The 15-second snippet features a go-go sound that will remind you of her 2005 Rich Harrison-produced hit “1 Thing.”

“That’s what I want, yeah, that’s what I want,” sings A over the funky percussion.

The last we heard from Ameriie was in March 2012 when she released the Focus-produced “Every Time.” She was working on an album called Cymatika, Vol. 1, but it never saw the light of day.

Get a taste of Ameriie’s new track below.

@Joysoul, 100% right. I heard that people in the US don’t know Because I love it’
    True?

    Gyary Reply:

@dada, a true Ameriie fan would tell you she stopped gogo music at least two albums ago.

    holler Reply:

@Gyary, she did not stop Gogo since it is her trademark sound.
In fact when Heard Em All Came out it blew my mind!
That is why I remember it!

@m.i.k.e., Girl boo. Sit yo baldhead self down somewhere. She’s clearly on an evolved sound. She’s one of the few that’s helping progress music, like Usher’s “Good Kisser.” She’s doing something different, and worrying about the quality of her music. She can’t be stuck in nothing if it’s HER sound.

    @Dave,
helping progress music?? LMAO you can have several seats… she’s so irrelevant to music industry that even somebody at a karaoke is just as relevant

@m.i.k.e., if she’s that irrelevant to you than why the hell are you even here?

@Dave, you are 100% right …but why discuss with basic minds?
Didn’t Rich Harris gave an Amerie song to a certain former girl group member and launched her solo career?
These basic bitches never do home works!

@Zebra, You better say it. You can always tell it’s a bunch of kids who comment on this site, always quick to try to discredit and tear down the next person by calling them irrelevant as if everything they’ve done is notable itself. No need to comment on that invalid mess, I’m just happy to see my girl back. Welcome back Amerie!

@Soaring, Ameriie sperates the real women from hoes!
Even her styling is on point!
She knows the basic rules and is seductive without being whorish:
No need for Indian hair from a plastic packaging,
decent make up that don’t make her look like a man who dresses as a woman,
legs focused without showing off titties, breasts never exposed with naked legs…
She and Kelis are fashion Icons in my book!
Her sound is real, exciting and timeless, her vocals raw and feminine at the same time…she is my everything!
First album deserved a Grammy. Last one was amazing. She did Gwen Stefanie songs better than Gwen (crush) and she showed range without being too obvious …
Basic bitches will never get Ameriie and Kelis!
    Fact!

I’m glad she went back to her original formula which is what made her special. No need to conform to industry standards anymore. I will definitely check it out.

No hater here but i think Amerie needs a producer who can give her a new sound. Don’t try to recreate whats already in the past make something fresh. Her last album was heavily slept on i just think the wrong singles were chosen.

This is too short to judge but I’m missing Amerie’s lush vocals. I hope she works with Rich Harrison again!

Y’all quick to say she’s stuck in her old sound but this is only a 15 second snippet of ONE song on the entire album.

Amerie has never followed trends like many people do, she created a sound and has stuck with it for years. True artists never change their sound just to sell records. I have to hear the full song to judge it. A few of your favs have changed to get radio hits and rack up dollars, but where they originated has completely disappeared from their sound…

I’m gonna wait for the full track as you can’t really intelligently form an opinion based on a 15 second snippet. That album sounds like it woulda been good from what I heard of it.

THis summer is gonna be HOT!!!

I’m feeling the return of radio r&b and instruments that have that club and summer feel!

I always thought Usher’s Good Kisser sounded like an Amerie sound…with the instruments and it’s hot and catchy. This sounds like it could be just as hot and catchy…The “thats what I want” is already stuck in my head LOL
