Diddy, Jay-Z Compete to Sign Odd Future

Odd Future and Diddy

The race to ink a record deal with Odd Future is heating up. The hip-hop collective is currently fielding offers from Roc Nation’s Jay-Z, Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine, SRC Records’ Steve Rifkind, and Diddy.

According to Page Six, the Bad Boy mogul is reportedly “desperate to sign the group to prove that he’s onto something hot.”

The West Coast outfit, led by Tyler, the Creator, is playing hardball, making each industry executive bow to their demands. After Rifkind reached out to the group, Tyler only agreed to meet with him if he provided them with “Randy’s Donuts, swivel chairs, and a megaphone.”

Diddy took a more active approach, orchestrating a meeting between Tyler and Justin Bieber after he demanded to link up with the teen heartthrob. According to a source, “Tyler asked Diddy for access to Justin, so he pulled strings,” while Odd Future’s rep confirmed that “Tyler did meet with Justin, and Diddy helped make it happen.”

The unsigned posse has been making waves in the industry over the past few months. Kanye West branded Tyler’s controversial video for “Yonkers” as the “video of 2011,” while R&B singer-songwriter Frank Ocean has hit the studio with Beyoncé to record tracks for her upcoming fourth LP.
