Jennifer Hudson as Winnie Mandela

Jennifer Hudson’s Winnie Mandela is finally coming to the big screen. The Oscar-winning actress plays the ex-wife of Nelson Mandela in the T.D. Jakes-presented biopic, which was filmed in spring 2010.

The movie follows the life of the political activist as she grows up in South Africa, marries Mandela (played by Terrence Howard), and campaigns for his release from prison.

J-Hud also stars in the holiday musical drama Black Nativity, due in November, and has been in the studio with RedOne, Salaam Remi, and Pharrell working on her third album.

Winnie Mandela opens in U.S. theaters on September 6. Watch the official trailer below.
