2 Chainz Opens Up About Bankroll Fresh's Death

  /  03.07.2016

Just days after Atlanta rapper Bankroll Fresh was shot and killed, 2 Chainz is opening up about his friend’s death.

During his visit to “The Wendy Williams Show” on Monday (March 7), 2 Chainz paid tribute to his Street Execs affiliate. “He was an authentic trap rapper from Atlanta, who touched many lives and lit up every room he went to,” he said. “It was super unfortunate, super unnecessary, super senseless. And it just made me want to step up and use my platform for more positivity.”

Chainz also spoke about his new album ColleGrove, and how it serves as a dedication to Lil Wayne.

“I have a great relationship with Cash Money/Young Money,” he said. “[Wayne is] like my brother, my friend, actually my favorite rapper. I just felt like it was time to put out a project or for somebody to just acknowledge that he had a lot to do with moving the culture to where it is now.”

Watch the interview and see highlights from the conversation below.

On the surprise release of ColleGrove: “I think that’s the new way to promote and market things. The original way or the old way was to set a date and get the fans excited about putting the project out and then doing marketing and promo leading up to the album. But today’s youth’s attention span is so short that I felt like I could just put out an album and the impulse of it being a surprise album would drive them to buy the project.”

On his education: “I have a degree. I’m pretty much fluent from the streets all the way up to college.”

On rap vs. trap music: “They have a new trap music where it’s kind of sort of like EDM, but the trap music that I talk about speaks of things that go on inside the neighborhoods of Atlanta, Georgia, where you come from. I always tell people, if I was from Denver, I would probably know how to ski, but I’m from Atlanta, so I know how to trap.”
