Ella Mai Performs 'Shot Clock' & 'Boo'd Up' on 'Ellen'
Fresh off winning her first Grammy, Ella Mai took the stage on “Ellen.”
In the pre-taped segment, the British songstress performed a medley of her Grammy-winning hit “Boo’d Up” and her latest single “Shot Clock.” As a 24-second countdown displayed behind her, she belted out the track off her self-titled debut album before delivering her 4x platinum hit.
On Sunday night, she won her first Grammy for Best R&B Song for “Boo’d Up.” An emotional Ella took to social media to celebrate and thank her fans. “wow, i really won a grammy last night,” she tweeted. “but this was really for all of you because you made this song so special! this is OUR grammy! thank you all so much, i can’t even put my feelings into words.”
But she was even more surprised to see her idol Alicia Keys cover “Boo’d Up” during her Grammy medley. “last night swizzy said to me ‘you’re in for a surprise tonight’ and i didn’t know what that meant,” said Ella. “alicia keys singing boo’d up made my entire life. i cried. i can’t stop rewatching the clip. shook! to have one of my idols, sing my song, at the grammys? SPECIAL.”
