First Look: Ne-Yo as the Tin Man in 'The Wiz Live!'

Ne-Yo has gone platinum, and now he’s going tin. The R&B crooner transforms into the Tin Man for “The Wiz Live!,” NBC’s adaptation of the 1975 Broadway musical. PEOPLE has a first look at the cast in costume including Shanice Williams as Dorothy, Elijah Kelley as the Scarecrow, and David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion.

“He is a woodsman translated into the world of tin,” says costume designer Paul Tazewell of Ne-Yo’s Tin Man. “It’s much more literal to work clothing than it is created out of a patchwork of metal. And it’s topped off with a tree-worker’s metal hat.”

The cast also includes Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Common as the Bouncer, the gatekeeper to Emerald City.

“The Wiz Live!” will air on Dec. 3.
