Donald Glover Begins Filming Season 2 of 'Atlanta'

  /  09.28.2017

Donald Glover is returning to “Atlanta.”

The Emmy-winning actor has already started working on the second season of his critically-acclaimed, award-winning FX series, according to Atlanta Magazine.

Filming started on Sept. 20 and since then, film crews have been spotted in Mechanicsville and an office building in East Point, the mag reports. Additional signs were apparently seen at Southlake Mall.

Extras for the show were also called upon through the CL Casting website, according to The FADER. Roles include “tan caucasians,” “trashy white characters,” and “people w/ high-end business attire of all ethnicities and ages,” among others. One of the listings even calls for a caucasian mom in her 50s or 60s, that “is cheering on someone getting beat up!”

Last month, Glover told The Hollywood Reporter that this season would not be “a methadone drip of bullshit.” “I don’t want to go into season two [with the mindset of] ‘Enough people liked it so just keep those people,'” he said. “Because then you begin to give your audience a methadone drip of bullshit that keeps them happy as opposed to, ‘We did something controversial and more people were interested.'”

The second season follows a successful first, which resulted in several awards including a Golden Globe for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. Glover also took home a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy, for his work on the show. Additionally, the series took home trophies at the American Film Institute Awards, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Primetime Emmy Awards.

But “Atlanta” is just part of the rapper-actor’s busy schedule. Glover, who recently teased a double mixtape with Chance the Rapper, is working on a series of new projects, including a “Deadpool” television series and a Lion King remake.
