Pusha-T 'Wasn't Surprised' by Drake's Best Rap Album Grammy Snub

  /  12.21.2018

Pusha-T and Drake’s rivalry is still being felt, even at the Grammys.

Despite his seven nominations, Scorpion was omitted from Best Rap Album, while Pusha’s Daytona earned a Grammy nomination in the category.

“I didn’t start Daytona to let anybody down and I feel like we definitely accomplished the mission,” Pusha told The Associated Press (via Billboard). “Daytona is rap album of the year. No one rapped better than me in 2018.'”

The album will face off against Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy, Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap, Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD, and Mac Miller’s Swimming at the 61st annual ceremony.

“Maybe not never in my life had I ever thought about getting a Grammy, but I remember hearing about it and saying, ‘Damn, man, that’s pretty dope. I can’t wait to see how that turns out,'” added Push. “I was really impressed with the effort of the Grammy committee and how they were trying to change the way of doing things. Now when I look at the nominees, man, we got a tough category, and all of those albums are albums that I rock with.”

But he was not surprised by the omission of Drake’s Scorpion in the Best Rap Album category. “No. I wasn’t surprised. I think everybody needs to stay in their respective category,” said Push. “I don’t think me and him are in the same category.”

While he didn’t earn a nod for Best Rap Album, Drake did score seven nominations including Album of the Year and Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “God’s Plan.”

During the interview, Push also responded to Kanye’s recent tweets including his claim that Drake bought out the first two rows at Pusha’s concert. “Certain things I’m just not going to speak on because that’s not part of my DNA,” he said. “But, hey, Kanye’s fine, man. He’s fine. He was just talking on Twitter, doing what he does.”

Since then, Push and Kanye have spoken and “everything’s beautiful.” In fact, they are already working on a new project for 2019.

“I really can look back at 2018 and really look at it as a total win,” said Push.
