Janet Jackson Honors Michael on His 60th Birthday with 'Remember the Time' Tribute

  /  08.29.2018

On what would have been his 60th birthday, Janet Jackson is honoring her brother Michael with a special tribute video.

Ms. Jackson reimagined the iconic dance audition scene from the King of Pop’s “Remember the Time” video with some help from Instagram comedians Kwaylon Rogers and King Bach. In the one-minute clip, Janet plays an African queen, who sits in her throne judging the dancers with a stone face, like Iman did in MJ’s 1992 video.

According to TMZ, Kwaylon met Janet at the Billboard Music Awards in May. They hit it off and he pitched the idea to her before releasing it on MJ’s birthday.

“Surprise! I did a video with a legend,” wrote Kwaylon, who goes by BlameItOnKway on Instagram. “Janet Jackson’s first ever social media video. I love the song and message behind it!”

They rehearsed for a day and shot the video the next day to Janet’s liking. Kway and King Bach play the dancers who audition for Janet’s approval in the Diamond Batiste-directed clip, which also features her new single “Made for Now.”

Directed by John Singleton, MJ’s epic “Remember the Time” video co-starred Eddie Murphy, Iman, and Magic Johnson. It was released as the second single from Jackson’s eighth studio album, Dangerous.
