Dawn Richard Performs ‘Automatic’ Acoustic [Video]

Dawn Richard

Since her departure from Bad Boy, Dawn Richard has been enjoying success as a solo artist. During her appearance on KIIS FM’s “New Music Show,” the former Dirty Money member spoke about topping the iTunes R&B Albums chart with her independently-released EP Armor On. Plus, she performed an acoustic version of her song “Automatic” for the first time.

“It’s the most beautiful feeling to see us go No. 1, to put out a record and do those things and it’s five people,” said Dawn. “Word of mouth is something that’s way more important. Whereas money buys you everything, in this situation, good relationships get you further than most.”

Dawn will go in front of the lens this weekend to shoot a video for “Faith” and “Wild N’ Young.”

    I watched this live on ustream, she did an amazing job. I was a little worried how she’d do a live version of Automatic, being that the sound if the song is very “Computerized”.

    And umm…. she’s doing a video for Wild N Young?!! :-O Awesome!

    THis girlll! Yo live vocal crazy. Dope arrangements. Like great way to switch up a record. Dances like nobodies business. Well spoken. Amazing writer. Like nobody touching her

    Love it! And what I live for more is she sounds like her. Not brandy or anyone. Live she has a crazy style. It separates her. She is dangerous for real. A triple threat

    LOVE. I slept on Dawn during the first DK album but on the second one, she QUICKLY became my favorite. She has that thing that you can’t quite put your finger on AND her drive is out of this world. I love this woman and Dawn I get it too!!! #heartsheaux

    Brilliant Job Dawn!

    I need to see this mixed into her videos too. SMFU had moments of it – the striped down – but then added the dance. Dancing is not all she can do. She needs to not be predictable with these new visuals and the concepts. Look at someone like Kimbras, or Jhene A. Their solo videos are some real artistic stuff without it having to be about dance.

    Faith is a real spiritual love song that seems to blur the line between spirituality and dangerously intense love. She needs to find a way to encapsulate that.

    @Stevie, “Faith”??? o_O

    Or “Scripture”???!!! “Scripture” is the really spiritually deep song off the EP. “Faith” is the extremely simple Dance/Pop/International record………….. :/

    KeepingItFunky Reply:

    @Jay, I agree with you. If @Stevie wants her to cut back on the dance, “Faith” is NOT the song. It would definitely be Scripture or Black Lipstick or SMFU.

    @Jay, “You never lost faith in meeee, you never lost faith in mee e” “Have your way, have your…”. The lyrics alone could be interpreted as an ode to a partner and friend as parent or to God (minus the swearing). Dawn has that type of voice and tone that no matter what sounds like worship.

    For get the beat. Dawn bring a magical spiritual quality to any song.

    @Stevie, I agree. The lyrics are spiritual. But you have to be realistic. Very few listen to that song & see spirituality. They hear a house beat & an intoxicating rhythm……. so they dance. Only her fans – people who GET her – see it they way you & I may see it.

    @MusicJunkie, So far Dawn, Aubrey and Shannon all agreed to do a reunion. No word from D.woods or Aundrea. I think after everyone’s solo projects we will see a reunion. I agree, their return would be so huge. They weren’t huge before, but the break up seemed to made them big.

    MusicJunkie Reply:

    @Dez, I still to there albums ‘ i dont thonk any of them will have success going solo ‘ Aubrey had the most potential & we see where that went . & they was somewhat huge they are the only female group to have they 1st & 2nd album debut at number one ‘ destiny child hasnt even did that .

    KeepingItFunky Reply:

    @MusicJunkie, Aubrey never had the most potential out of the group. She was just the easiest to market. There’s a difference.

    REALEST Reply:

    @MusicJunkie, I’M NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM AUDREY, BUT DAWN HAS ALL THE POTENTIALS. DAWN IS INDEPENDENT AND BEING SUCCESSFUL AT IT. AND YOU TALK ABOUT POTENTIAL, REALLY? DAWN HAS HAD LABELS WANTING HER, BUT SHE REFUSES TO BE UNDER A LABEL RIGHT NOW. DAWN IS LHAO ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. EVERY DOLLAR GOES TO HER! #1 EP ON ITUNES, AND SONG “PWT” HOTT SINGLE ON ITUNES, FRONT PAGE! J/SAYIN

    Stevie Reply:

    @MusicJunkie, NOPE! DK is over! and it will stay that way as long as Aubrey stay slyly shading Dawn and D Woods continues to blame Dawn for blocking her star.

    [Reply]

    O_O Reply:

    @MusicJunkie,
    I’m sorry but Aubrey still dislikes Dawn. Don’t be fooled by the tweets, read between the lines. Aubrey is still very much competing with Dawn to maintain her “top dog” & “most popular” position, where as Dawn is just trying to be the best SHE can possibly be.

    Thats why I rock with Dawn. Everything she does, its about something. She is all about music with purpose and meaning. She only competes with the very best version of herself….not with the next chick.

    @MusicJunkie, No I don’t miss them. Dawn’s solo career is beginning to take off and I don’t know why she would go back with the group now. Plus they weren’t big enough for people to be that excited for them to get back together. I mean they weren’t like TLC or DC or anything.

    When I start my new blog, I think it will mostly be dceteaidd to bitching about Kevin. Plus, Im much too lazy to worry about small things like punctuation and awkward wording, so Kevin is going to hate it. All the more reason to make one, I suppose!
