Lauryn Hill Thanks Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder for Writing Letters to Judge

Lauryn Hill

Earlier this week, Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months behind bars for tax evasion. In the aftermath of her trial, the Grammy-winning icon took to her blog to thank her supporters including Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder, who wrote letters to the judge on her behalf.

In a message posted on Tumblr, the Fugees frontwoman expressed her gratitude. “I want to extend a sincere thank you to the following people, who wrote letters to the judge on my behalf,” she said, while listing the names of 29 people from all over the world.

She also thanked those who wished her well during the ordeal. “I also want to thank all of my family, friends, business associates, and fans who have called, emailed, sent texts, and posted messages of concern, encouragement, and support,” said the 37-year-old singer, who has until July 8 to report to prison. “I appreciate the well wishes, and I thank you for your prayers.”

Over the weekend, she released a new song called “Neurotic Society” as part of her deal with Sony, and will be putting out more music in the coming months.

If You Can’t Do The Time….Don’t Do The Crime! A very simple concept that a supposedly intelligent person could not understand.

@Chris, Could an intelligent person also not understand why everyone who owes taxes doesn’t do jail time? Some pretty big names are still out there doing their thing and still owing that debt. She should not be singled out. From what I’ve heard she had payed a huge hunk of it, so why stick her in jail when there are so many others? No, I don’t know her music but it still does not seem right when I’ve heard about so many other celebrities who have not payed up for years and years and they still live their lives outside prison.

@Sonya, why put in jail a killer if there are many others out there? why punish your kids for disrespecting you if there are many kids doing it? From someone you have to start, bad luck to your fav but justice is justice.

This is sad. It’s obvious that her serving 3 months in jail is absolutely ridiculous.

Its just fair. She has to pay taxes just like anybody else. Just because shes a singer shes something better and shouldnt be going to jail? Ok.

@BreezyLover, No one said she’s better. The fact of the matter is that she is being treated as if she is worst than those that commit the same exact crime. Her sentence is too stiff, “certain” people don’t get any time.
