Mariah Carey Announces New Single ‘The Art of Letting Go’

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is back in business. After suffering an injury over the summer, the pop diva is returning to music with a brand new single.

“The Art of Letting Go” will premiere exclusively on Mariah’s Facebook page on Nov. 11, she announced today.

“This song is so personal to me and I’m very excited to share this experience with you in such an intimate way,” she wrote on Facebook.

Just last week, Mariah updated fans on her condition and told them to expect an announcement very soon.

“The Art of Letting Go” serves as the follow-up to the Miguel-assisted hit “#Beautiful,” which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100.

She has been in the studio with Nas, Wale, Rodney Jerkins, Hit-Boy, Mike WiLL Made-It, and Jermaine Dupri working on her first album since 2009′s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

I can’t even bother to care until I hear this… I fully expect at least 60% of it to be featuring someone else. She’ll just come in and yelp the last word.

She gonna have people wait all the way to Thanksgiving for just a single? Why not just release it now to see if people will still care at this point before building up some hype, because she did that with “Beautiful” and it was a sleeper, especially with all the dry live renditions of the song. Time is running out for MC, it’s either come back strong, or just hang it up at 43, which she still can do because has accomplished plenty of records that won’t be broken any time soon. She has already reached legendary status so she can just chill if all else fails. And if she is gonna get serious, a song WITHOUT a feature is best for her. I’m tired of a bunch of rappers clogging up all her records now.

@Bx, Chill. She only had meek mill and Rick ross on one song and that was last year. She can do whatever she want when it come to Hip hop being that she started that trend of pop/hiphop collabs back in 95 w/ ODB. All of these girls started to follow her. Beautiful was not a sleeper. It went platinum. You haven’t heard anyone from her era go platinum in any capacity on the charts. She needs to build up excitement for it that’s why she releasing it next month. And in all honesty, it would’ve been better starting January with a clean slate.

@MC, Her last 3 albums had rappers on almost all her songs, I know, because I have all her albums except Charmbracelet. And she actually didn’t start that pop/rap trend, though she did make it popular, however she went overboard with it in the 2000s when her voice started to decline, which is why I say she needs another “Mariah” moment like We Belong Together, the feature thing is like leverage for her. She has had plenty of time to build excitement, she could release that single now, then another next month and then if they are successful, the album can be a Christmas release. Beautiful did go platinum, but didn’t reach the top ten which is classic Mariah status.

@Bx, @Bx, Then who’s the artist that was first then? Can you name the artists or song? Yes, Mariah was the first Pop artist to collaborate with a rapper. She was really R&B but imaged and polished as a pop artist. Mary was strictly R&B so she doesn’t count! You obviously don’t have her albums because Memoirs didn’t have any collabs lol She only released Up out my face because it was going to be on the Remix album that didn’t come out. E=MC2 had only 1 song with a rapper (Young Jeezy)..(Damien marley& Tpain should count, they don’t rap) doesn’t count. If anything both Emancipation and Charmbraclet had the most rappers.

Everyone is saying that this need to be a ballad but I disagree because I doubt radio is going to play anything slow tempo from her . I stay in love, I want to know what love is, HATE havbe not done well. Bye-Bye went to 19 and that was off the strength of Touch My body She needs to keep it mid-uptempo. Notice Rihanna can get 3x platinum from a simple ass vocal like stay and Mariah will go in and not receive any recognititon. And that’s whats messed up with the music industry. Its all about popularity.

All Mariah needs to do is soften her diva image, get a stylist and have Jermaine book for every television show and she’ll be fine. She needs to be strategic and stop relying on the fact that she’s Mariah Carey. It wont work with this younger generation.

Too many folks are out right now for Mariah to release it now. Katy and Miley are ruling the charts and Gag will be up next so its good she waiting to build up the momentum. if she released it tomorrow no one will know about it.

@MC, Janet had Chuck D on her Janet album from her album in 93 and MJ has Cris Cross and Heavy D on Dangerous. MC made it popular for female pop artists to do……later, but she was NOT the first. I “stand corrected” on the fact that though I “intentionally” exaggerated the many rappers comment, most of them weren’t, so I will own up to that one. HOWEVER, the songs she would mostly market were her remixes with rappers, moreso than her classic ballads in her ladder career. TPain and Marley are considered rappers despite their own particular touch to it, so it does count. I agree with you on the industry stuck on popularity, but I would personally like to see her back in the hands of another producer that is not hip hop oriented. She needs to go back to R&B and pop mostly without the rap twist because that was what made her in the first place. And releasing the single on the 11th of Nov (which I think is the same as GaGa’s release) is another reason it should NOT be then, because you are right ‘no one would know about it.”

@Bx, if you’re going to PRETEND to be a big Mariah fan at least get your facts right. Mariah’s last studio album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” actually had NO guest features at all on the album tracks (only the remixes).

    Bx Reply:

@Ant, true, one done, however she stressed a lot her remixes of features with Neyo on Angels Cry, Nicki on Out My Face, and Gucci on Obsessed when the singles started to pummel. I was exaggerating my statement on that. If she would have started with something like Candy Bling, it would have been a different story. I don’t pretend, I will be critical on any artist despite how much I like them, I don’t just buy whatever they put out because of who they are to inflate their ego.

@Bx, Just cause she’s a legend doesn’t mean she has to stop doing music. She didn’t do music because she wanted to retire once she reached legendary status. She wanted to do music because she LOVES MUSIC. She can do it until she’s 80 if she wants. And I’ll still be buying.

    Bx Reply:

@A Realist, Good for you, I respect your opinion. I just think she can do better than what she has been doing. Buy if you wish, that is fine.

@Bx, @A Realist, @Ant, Memoirs was made for her to get over her miscarriage and only had production from the Dream. I’m not really worried about the music this time around. However I do think she should work with Pharrel again. I hope JD updated his sound cause its very outdated and archaic. No one really works with him like that except for Monica. His beats better be dope this time around.

Mariah is afraid to evolve though. I know it. I’m worried about JD managing her. What is he gonna do that Benny Medina hasn’t?Benny was a motherfuckin beast. Emancipation and MC2 were promoted perfectly to the T. Brining JD on for management I think was a bad deal. She needs to get over his ass. I understand they’re like best friends but c’mon. All Im saying is that he has to make be seen everywhere. I want her on Oprah, Ellen, Today or GMa, Fallon, Leno, Watch what happens, 106. I even want her on the Breakfast club cause that’s a good look in regards to hits. HE better come correct or I will come for him! :)
