Busta Rhymes Splits with Cash Money

Birdman and Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes is no longer repping YMCMB. After over two years at the label, the hip-hop veteran has officially parted ways with Cash Money.

During a visit to SiriusXM’s “Sway in the Morning” (via MTV News), Bussa Buss said his departure was due to creative differences.

“Nothing happened in a negative way,” he explained. “I was there for two years and the opportunity was a great opportunity at the time because of the type of deal that was done. For me, with this particular project and all of the sacrifice that went into it—recording the album for five years, I [lost] Chris Lighty making this album, I [lost] my father making this album—the shit that I was putting into this album, I’m not compromising my vision for it.”

Busta announced his signing to Cash Money in November 2011, but never released an album on the label.

“If I feel like if, in the slightest way, we ain’t facilitating everything necessary for the vision to be seen and executed in the way I’m envisioning this shit for the last five years, let me live and die in my own own inequity, homie,” he said.

He and Birdman talked it out, and didn’t rule out future collaborations. “After I see this through, if there’s other opportunities for us to explore as businessmen together, let’s continue to do it.”

Busta has already moved on with his career. Earlier this month, he dropped his new single “Calm Down” featuring Eminem and is readying his 10th album E.L.E. 2.

    @Bowtobey, excuse me…nicki and wayne are very talented.

    The issue with the label is that they dont have a vision. The old cash money had a team of co hesive artist. This new label is all over place. Everytime they sign a new artist im like “what”?

    @meme,

    How is Wayne talented? listen to the radio man.. there’s about a good 20 waynes out there.. when you dope.. no one can duplicate what you do. You can imitate a style but you cant imitate talent!

    Im sure they wanted Busta to do nothing but trap-style joints and he come from another era… he aint having that!

    @UMM, u just proved meme’s point. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. People copy his style but they can never duplicate it. That’s why none of his copy cats are anywhere near as popular nor has reached his success. It’s ok to not like wayne but let’s not get ridiculous. Wayne been in the game and consistently relevant since the block is hot. Dude has Grammys and multi platinum albums. He really the only rapper doing a mil of close first week when it comes to the carter albums. Did he get lazy? Yea I’ll be the first to admit he started slacking but u can’t hear carter 1, 2, 3, no ceilings, da drought, or dedication mix tapes and say the man ain’t talented. Don’t lie to the American people please.

    @Mrunhateable, thank u for saying what I couldnt. Wayne latest stuff have been less than stellar but get it twisted…this dude “was” one of the most consistent rappers period. He was doing thing no other rapper was doing and top rap to a level unheard of. Ppl are so quick to discredit others.

    Good. This is the man that made put your hands where my eyes can see, one of the most creative cats to represent hip hop in the mainstream and underground. There was no worse place for him than cash money. Cash money including drake, nikki, wayne etc and everyone on the radio are fucking garbage. They’ve cashed in on an art form, whored out Black culture by furthering stereotypes and ruined it for everyone by setting a standard of mediocrity that has further down spiraled into music for that sounds like handicap children screaming.
