Janelle Monáe Performs 'What Is Love' on 'American Idol'

Janelle Monáe brought Brazilian Carnaval to “American Idol” during her dazzling performance on Thursday’s live results show. Following an introduction from the “Idol” judges, the 28-year-old singer had the audience on its feet with her funky single “What Is Love” off the soundtrack to the animated film Rio 2.

“Wow. we just performed @americanidol. Thank you to #rio & #brazil for being an inspiration for my song for #rio2!!” tweeted Janelle, who was joined by a team of dancers and musicians.

The soundtrack (stream it here) also features appearances from Bruno Mars, Ester Dean, B.o.B., and Philip Lawrence.
