Twenty years after releasing his debut Illmatic, Nas is still going strong. The hip-hop icon plans to drop new music, and it’s coming sooner than you think.

On Tuesday, Nas stopped by Angie Martinez on Power 105.1 to promote his documentary Nas: Time Is Illmatic. When asked when his new material would arrive, he responded, “Real soon.”

When pushed for a date, Nas said, “Maybe sooner than next week…maybe tomorrow.”

The Queens MC has been in the studio working on the follow-up to his 2012 album Life Is Good, which debuted at No. 1.

He launched the independent label Mass Appeal Records earlier this year, where he plans to release Lost Tapes 2, the long-awaited sequel to his 2002 collection of unreleased music.

In April, he celebrated the 20th anniversary of Illmatic with his re-release Illmatic XX. His documentary, Nas: Time Is Illmatic, will be available on demand and iTunes starting October 3.

Last night, Nas was joined by his daughter Destiny and friends including Busta Rhymes and La La Anthony at the premiere at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.

In celebration of the documentary, Nas will embark on a month-long tour starting October 2 in Rochester, New York.
