Tyler, the Creator salutes Pharrell. In honor of the 10th anniversary of In My Mind, the Odd Future MC sang Skateboard P’s praises in a lengthy post.
Released July 25, 2006, P’s solo debut made quite an impact on many music lovers, including Tyler, who was only 15 years old when it dropped.
“I CREATED ODD FUTURE THAT SAME SUMMER,” wrote Tyler. “I WAS ACTUALLY NAIVE ENOUGH TO BELIEVE YOU AND THOUGHT I COULD DO ALL THESE AMAZING THINGS IF I REALLY TRIED…I’M NOW A YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR ALL BECAUSE I BELIEVED YOU WHEN YOU SAID I COULD BE.”
He went on to thank The Neptunes hitmaker for being a role model. “I NEVER HAD BROTHERS,UNCLES OR MY FATHER AROUND SO THANK YOU FOR BEING THE MALE FIGURE I GRAVITATED TO. ALLOWING ME TO EMBRACE BEING DIFFERENT AND TRUSTING MY IDEAS.”
Since then, Tyler and his mentor have collaborated on a series of songs, including 2013’s “IFHY.”
