John Legend Performs at NBA All-Star Game

  /  02.20.2017

John Legend provided the entertainment at this year’s NBA All-Star Game with a career-spanning halftime show at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Sunday (Feb. 19).

Kicking things off with “Start a Fire,” the R&B crooner brought actual fire to the stage, with an impressive pyrotechnic show for the infectious La La Land standout.

With Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Blue Ivy looking on, Legend blessed the Louisiana crowd with a run through his discography, performing hits ranging from his first single, “Used to Love U,” to one of his latest, “Love Me Now.” The whole time, he rocked an all-black outfit, in front of a dazzling set, including a digital screen and his name in bright lights.

In between “Used to Love U” and “Love Me Now,” Legend peppered in other highlights from his catalog, including “Tonight (Best You Ever Had),” “Green Light,” and “All of Me.”

For the show’s closer, Legend opted for the triumphant sounds of his Oscar-winning Common collaboration “Glory.” Sans his Chicago collaborator, the performance featured Legend on the piano, backed by a moving choir.

Last year, John released his fifth album Darkness and Light featuring appearances from Chance the Rapper and Miguel.

This year’s NBA All-Star Game featured an introductory musical performance from The Roots, with help from Michael B. Jordan, Jidenna, and Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels of Run-D.M.C.
