Watch Jennifer Lopez's Epic VMA Performance

  /  08.20.2018

Jennifer Lopez joined icons like Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Beyoncé as the latest artist to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award during the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday.

Wearing a gold leotard, the pop icon delivered an epic 10-minute retrospective of hits spanning her 20-year career. Suspended in the air, she opened with “Waiting for Tonight” before segueing into “On the Floor.” As Tiffany Haddish danced in the crowd, she continued with hit after hit including “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “I’m Glad,” and “Get Right.”

As her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez looked on with her twins and mother, J.Lo made it snow while performing “All I Have” in a white fur coat. DJ Khaled played hypeman as J.Lo took it back to the Bronx for “Jenny From the Block,” rocking a gold Versace jumpsuit and glittery Timbalands.

Ja Rule emerged for “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny.” Joined by an army of gold-clad dancers, she ended with her latest single “Dinero,” surrounded by an army of dancers.

Following a standing ovation from her peers including Cardi B and Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes presented the Video Vanguard to J.Lo, who becomes the first Latin artist to receive the award. During her heartfelt speech, she thanked her manager Benny Medina, mother, children, and fans.

“I grew up on MTV and this is really like a tremendous honor for me,” said J.Lo. “It’s been an incredible journey of dreaming my wildest dreams and kind of watching them come true.”

She also acknowledged her Alex Rodriguez. “You’re like my twin soul,” she said. “We’re like mirror images of each other. My life is sweeter and better with you in it.”

But that wasn’t her only trophy of the night. J.Lo also took home Best Collaboration for her Cardi B and DJ Khaled collaboration “Dinero.”
