Jacquees and Keith Sweat Debate 'King of R&B' Title

Jacquees may think he’s the king of R&B, but Keith Sweat is putting him in check.

The Cash Money crooner was at V103’s WinterFest 2018 when he ran into the 57-year-old R&B icon backstage. Sweat was asked by a TMZ cameraman what he thought of Jacquees’ claim to the throne.

“You are originally the king. Are you passing down the torch?” asked the cameraman.

Jacquees was nearby and ran up on up him, declaring himself the king. “This the king from back then,” he said. “I’m the king from right now. This Big Sweat, but it’s Big Quee.”

But Sweat wasn’t exactly ready to pass the torch. “Hold on, I’m still getting that bag. I don’t know what he’s talking about,” he said.

Jacquees shot back: “He gettin’ a bag, but 16 to 25 is my generation. I’m the king.”

They met up again during an interview, where Sweat told Big Tigger and Tank what had just happened. “Ran up on me, said I’m the king of my generation, 16 to 25,” he said. “So the only thing he heard was king, so you need to apologize young man.”

Jacquees humbled himself and apologized. “Apologies, dawg,” he said before threatening to beat up the TMZ cameraman.

But it was all love. Sweat then called them “all kings of R&B,” while Jacquees said he was “made off Keith Sweat.” When Sweat asked why no one brought up Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, and Luther Vandross as kings in the conversation, Jacquees said “they ain’t have the internet.”

The interview ended with Sweat proposing a collaboration. “We goin’ in the studio. I got some more ‘Make It Last Forever’ in me,” he said before they went off camera to discuss their recording plans.
