Nipsey Hussle's Philanthropy to Be Entered Into Congressional Record

Nipsey Hussle will go down in history.

Congresswoman Karen Bass, who represents California’s 37th District including South L.A., has announced plans to have the rapper’s humanitarian efforts recorded into Congress’ permanent record.

“I will be heading to the House Floor next week to formally enter Nipsey Hussle’s contributions to South Los Angeles into the Congressional Record where it will be a part of United States history forever,” Bass tweeted on Wednesday (April 3).

The 33-year-old rapper, whose nickname was “Neighborhood Nip,” was celebrated for his work in the community of South Los Angeles. The day after he died, he was scheduled to meet with LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Police Commission President Steve Soboroff to discuss gang violence prevention.

There has also been an online movement to name the intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson, where Nipsey was killed, to “Nipsey Hussle Way” in “honor of a community icon.” The petition on Change.org has more than 380,000 signatures.

In the wake of his death, Nipsey’s peers including ScHoolboy Q, Machine Gun Kelly, and YG have decided to delay their single and album releases out of respect for the slain rapper. “I was dropping a Surprise album April 12th,” tweeted YG. “But man Now that we gotta deal with Big bro goin to heaven I will not drop the album this month.”
