Lil Nas X's 'Old Town Road' Breaks Record for Longest-Running No. 1 Single

Can’t nobody tell him nothin’.

Lil Nas X makes chart history as “Old Town Road” sits atop the Hot 100 for a record 17th week, making it the longest-running No. 1 in Billboard history.

The country-trap hit dethrones two songs that each spent 16 weeks atop the singles chart: Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s 1995 hit “One Sweet Day” and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber.

“Old Town Road” first gained traction as part of a viral dance challenge on the TikTok app. In March, Billboard declared it ineligible for its country chart, which led to the official remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which has kept the song at No. 1.

Several other remixes have followed including a Diplo-produced dance remix and another featuring Young Thug and Mason Ramsey. Last week, Lil Nas X dropped “Seoul Town Road” featuring RM of K-pop group BTS.

The 20-year-old rapper released his debut EP 7 in June featuring his smash single, along with the follow-up “Panini” and “Rodeo” featuring Cardi B.
