Kim Kardashian Files for Divorce From Kanye West

  /  02.19.2021

It’s over for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

After nearly seven years of marriage, the beauty mogul officially filed for divorce from her husband on Friday, Feb. 19, according to TMZ.

The split is described as “amicable as a divorce can be.” Kim is asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four children–North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 21 months. Kanye has reportedly agreed to the joint custody arrangement, and both he and Kim are committed to co-parenting together.

There’s a prenup and neither party is contesting it. They are already working on a property settlement agreement.

The court documents, filed by high-profile divorce attorney Laura Wasser, don’t list a date of separation. Kim held off on officially submitting divorce documents out of concern for their children. “She wants to make sure she’s making the right decision for the kids,” a source told E! News.

Their relationship took a turn after Kanye’s presidential campaign rally in South Carolina last July, when he claimed that the couple thought about aborting their daughter North. Multiple sources claim Kim was ready to call it quits following Kanye’s public outbursts, including allegations of cheating, but felt that it was cruel to end the marriage amid his struggles with bipolar disorder.

Just this week, Kanye was photographed in Malibu wearing his wedding band, while Kim was spotted sans her ring during a recent outing. The couple had been living separately for months as Kanye remained at his Wyoming ranch while Kim stayed in Calabasas.

“It’s gotten to the point where they haven’t spent time together as a married couple in months,” said an insider. “They’ve seen each other for the sake of the kids but have been living separately. Kim knows the marriage is over. She’s known for a while.”

Kim and Kanye first met in the early 2000s and went public with their romance in 2012. They tied the knot during a lavish ceremony in Florence, Italy in May 2014.
