DaBaby Reportedly Promised a Video Apology to Save Festival Gigs

  /  08.03.2021

Prior to being cut from the lineups of several festivities, DaBaby was reportedly planning a videotaped apology.

According to Billboard, the rapper’s representatives reached out to the promoters of seven fall festivals that had booked him and informed them that he would deliver a heartfelt apology to the LGBTQ+ community. The short video was to be played before he took the stage at Lollapalooza in Chicago on Sunday (Aug. 1).

The video was to make up for his original apology following his controversial Rolling Loud set in Miami last month, where he told the LGBTQ+ community, “I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.”

His reps assured festival promoters that his on-camera apology would be sincere, however, it never arrived. On Sunday morning, Lollapalooza announced on social media that DaBaby had been dropped from the lineup and that Young Thug would perform in his time slot instead.

On Monday morning, New York’s Governors Ball and Las Vegas’ Day N Vegas announced that they were also yanking DaBaby from their festivals. The iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Music Midtown in Atlanta, and ACL Festival in Austin also followed suit.

DaBaby still remains on the bill for Hot 97’s Summer Jam on Aug. 22, and currently has a show booked for Aug. 14 in Bonner Springs, Kansas, and a radio concert in Fiddler’s Green near Denver on Sept. 4.

On Monday afternoon, DaBaby eventually issued a formal apology on Instagram.

“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made,” he wrote in a statement. “Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”
