Wiz Khalifa, Rapsody, & Thundercat Pay Tribute to Mac Miller on His 30th Birthday

  /  01.19.2022

Mac Miller would have been 30 today.

In honor of the late rapper’s birthday, some of his closest friends and colleagues are celebrating his life and legacy. Rolling Stone has compiled a digital birthday card filled with wishes and memories on what would have been his 30th year.

Wiz Khalifa, who was once signed to the same label as Mac, recalled fond memories of their studio sessions.

“I miss you, man. Today would have been your 30th birthday, you were gone too soon,” wrote Wiz. “I remember our early days back at ID Labs in Pixburgh with E. Dan making legendary music. You were the young homie coming up so fast and representing the Burgh. We’ll never forget you, man. Love you, bro, happy birthday.”

Another one of Mac’s friends and collaborators, Thundercat, revealed the profound impact Mac had on his life.

“I’ve been taking your advice — sitting down and letting it happen, extremely sitting down and letting it happen,” said the bassist. “And goodness, I’m happy that I’ve gotten to know you and spend this time with you because your life changed my life. I hope that wherever you are, you’re still changing people’s lives.”

Rapsody remembered the Pittsburgh MC for his “light, heart, energy, gift, and love of fruit snacks.”

“Man, you kicked a door in for me early and we gon’ continue to carry your legacy through the doors we still walking through,” said Rapsody. “I still don’t like hummus, btw! I know you would’ve had the illest ‘Dirty Thirty’ celebration ever! I love you forever, Malcolm!”

J.I.D celebrated Mac as a “true genius,” as well as a “genuine human being and a friend.”

Olu, one half of EarthGang, said Mac was the “first star” that the group ever collaborated with. “You didn’t ask for anything. You truly appreciated us as people, appreciated our music, and opened up your resources to us as a friend,” he said.

Mac’s mother, Karen Meyers, also shared a sweet photo of her and her son hugging on the beach. She captioned her Instagram Story with a series of red heart emojis.

Mac died of an accidental overdose on Sept. 7, 2018 at the age of 26. His legacy lives on through his music including his sixth and final album Circles, which was released in January 2020. In October, his Faces mixtape was released to streaming services.
