Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson stepped into his new role as documentary producer at the premiere of Tapia at the Los Angeles Film Festival on Wednesday night.

The film focuses around the life of late boxer Johnny Tapia and features interviews with Mike Tyson and Tapia’s family. Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard showed up to lend his support to the hip-hop mogul.

50 saw the documentary for the first time a month ago. “I was drawn to the intensity of this project,” he told Variety. “His story resonated with me because like Tapia, I too lost my mother to violence and grew up with limited means. It’s a heartfelt story and it was important for me to get involved with bringing this to a broader audience.”

While his album Street King Immortal awaits a release, 50 can be heard on “New York Times,” a bonus cut on J. Cole’s album Born Sinner. “I played him the joint, and when the hook came on, he was like, ‘I could tell you was thinking about me when you did the melodies,’ so he just sat and filled in the words,” Cole told MTV News. “I got to literally watch 50 Cent sit there and write. It was wild.”
