Jessie J and Ariana Grande

Sixteen years after Brandy and Monica topped the charts with “The Boy Is Mine,” two of pop’s leading ladies, Ariana Grande and Jessie J, are bringing the diva duet back to life.

Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, who produced the original song, has paired the “Bang Bang” collaborators up for a remake that will appear on his 20th anniversary album in 2015.

“Next year is my 20-year anniversary and I’m doing a very special project. Some originals as well as reimagined hits,” Jerkins told HITS Daily Double. “So for example, I’ll do the ‘The Boy Is Mine’ with Ariana and Jessie J.”

The Grammy-winning song, which appeared on Brandy’s album Never Say Never and Monica’s album The Boy Is Mine, spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1998.

Jessie J previously dueted with Brandy on a song called “Conquer the World” for her 2013 album Alive.

Additionally, Jerkins has invited Sam Smith to cover Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.” “Sam told me was the song that made him want to sing. When I asked him if he’d be a part of this project he was like, ‘No one else can do that song but me!'” he said. “Sam’s the truth. He has a great heart and he’s genuine. His music speaks for who he is. This is a project I’m really looking forward to.”
