Drake Asked Restaurant to Play JAY-Z's '4:44' While He Dined

It seems Drake couldn’t wait to hear JAY-Z’s new album, 4:44. So, at around midnight on Thursday (June 29) — just before Hov dropped his 13th studio LP — Drizzy asked Baltimore restaurant Azumi to play the album while he dined.

Joe Sweeney, a spokesperson for Atlas Restaurant Group (which owns Azumi), acknowledged this in a statement to The Baltimore Sun. “While we normally have our own DJ’s music playing through the speakers, we were able to accommodate him,” Sweeney explained. “They listened to JAY-Z’s 4:44 album in its entirety.”

Drake and Hov have an interesting relationship. Once collaborators on songs like “Light Up,” “Pound Cake / Paris Morton Music 2,” and “Know Bout Me,” the two seemed to have a falling out. Last year, rumors of a beef surfaced as thinly-veiled shots appeared on tracks like Drake’s “Sneakin'” and Hov’s “I Got the Keys.” This year, that continued on Hov’s “Shining” and Drizzy’s “Portland.”

In fact, the latter track might have also been referenced on 4:44. In “Portland,” Drake raps: “Fuck being rich when I’m 40, I’m trying to make it now.” On “Family Feud,” JAY appears to respond with: “All this old talk left me confused / You’d rather be old, rich me, or new you?” There are other lyrics throughout 4:44 that fans have linked to this simmering feud.

JAY-Z’s new album is out now and a physical with three additional songs is expected in the near future. Meanwhile, Drake is prepping for the 8th Annual OVO Fest on Aug. 8.
