Donald Glover in Talks for 'Black Panther 2'

Donald Glover may be headed to Wakanda. The actor-rapper is reportedly in talks to join the cast of Black Panther 2.

According to Metro.co.uk, director Ryan Coogler is in “informal talks” with Glover to play a new character in the sequel to Disney and Marvel’s blockbuster.

“Ryan Coogler is currently mapping out Black Panther‘s sequel and has written in a number of new characters that movie-goers will be introduced to when it premieres,” says an insider. “One of those characters, if he gets his wish, will be played by Childish Gambino. Nothing is set in stone but ‘informal talks’ [are happening] between Ryan, Gambino, and reps from Marvel and Disney to see if they can make it happen.”

It’s unclear if Michael B. Jordan’s character, Erik Killmonger, will return. Instead, Glover may fill in as a villain. “They’re still yet to decide if Michael B. Jordan will return in some capacity, but if he doesn’t it’s likely Gambino may play some kind of villain,” adds the source.

The 34-year-old Glover stars as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which opens in theaters Friday (May 25). He is also set to voice Simba in the upcoming Lion King reboot.

Black Panther has amassed $676 million at the U.S. box office, surpassing Titanic to become the third highest-grossing domestic movie of all time, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avatar.

In addition to plotting his next film role, Glover’s musical alter-ego Childish Gambino is sitting on top of the Billboard charts. His single “This Is America” is currently No. 1 on the Hot 100.
